Chemists may be exposed to hazardous substances that possess corrosive, irritating, sensitizing, urticariogenic, and/or carcinogenic properties. Despite this potential exposure, systematic literature reviews and studies indicate that chemists do not exhibit an increased risk for work-related skin diseases as an occupational group. However, this finding does not eliminate the possibility of risks at the individual level for chemical skin injuries, contact dermatitis, urticaria, or even occupational cancer. Therefore, this chapter aims to provide guidance on the investigation and assessment of work-related and occupational skin diseases among chemists.
